I am a pretty avid traveler but I definitely made the mistake of waffling for too long and waiting to book, not many places in the world that fill up so far in advance! Personally, I would stay at Athina for the “Santorini experience” but you will get better value (larger rooms and pool) at El Greco. Is it safe to walk back to El Greco at night (after clubbing)? There is no nightlife – for clubs and bars you’ll definitely be heading to Fira – but the lack of partying makes for a quieter town. Rumours say that the hotel offers one of the best Greek breakfasts on the island with plenty of options. But since you want to stay along the caldera there is little chance that a place would be available for last minute booking. Lol. We’ll be there for 8 nights. Both have good views it looks like. – 3 families with 2 adults & 1 children each above age 12 Many new luxury hotels and beach clubs are opening in Perissa, especially on the south end, known as Perivolos Beach, though there are still plenty of great low-key restaurants and bars. San Antonio is the better hotel. If you’re in Santorini for great views and don’t care much about the location of your hotel then there are a collection of hotels a 20-minute walk south of Fira that have a great perch on the caldera’s cliff. I dont know which pool can actually see the sun falling into the pool. For your group the best options are Tsitouras’ Porcelain Room or Agali Houses’ Executive Triple. But, back to your question, don’t use Expedia under any circumstances. And preferably not too many steps. (There’s a two-night minimum at both places.). All suites have a private hot tub or plunge pool and face the caldera. Hot tubs, amazing views of the volcano and the sunsets,  one of the best massages and spas on the island and yummy breakfasts. A car does let you see more of the island but with only 3 days you’ll have more than enough to see without resorting to getting in a car.
